While looking through some old photos, I came across Boy’s third birthday photos. His birthday was way back in September (long before I started this blog!), but I thought I might share some of the birthday decor DIYs.
I did not want a fully themed, all matchy-matchy birthday party. I just want kids’ parties to be colorful!
For his birthday, we knew we were going to get a CARS themed cake. So I decided to keep the rest of the decorations simple, but colorful. I found some beautiful inspiration on Pinterest, like this streamer covered wall and a balloon garland.

And, this is what I came up with. I showed the streamer wall pic to hubby dearest, and put him to work! I think he did a good job. We decided on red, yellow and green colors. I think the photo is self-explanatory. Put up long strips of crepe paper streamers, and twist the alternate ones to add visual interest.
I made this cute number 3 to be the focal point. To make this (or any number), you will need,
- A piece of cardboard
- Crepe paper
- Glue
How to:
- Cut out the number on cardboard.
- Cover with crepe paper strips (so that the cardboard doesn’t show).
- Cut crepe paper into squares (roughly) around 2 inches long.
- Twist each crepe paper square into a flower shape by pinching at the center of the square. Make a gazillion of these.
- Stick them on till the number is fully covered.
- Hang it up and enjoy. You can hang this on the door like a wreath too.
Psst…I will let you in on a secret now. I didn’t even cut out the number from cardboard. Since I was making a ‘3’, I just stapled together two paper plate halves to form a ‘3’ shape. And I am pretty sure, pre-made number forms are available in craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael’s.
I used simple red plates and cups. And a colorful table cover with a balloon pattern.
Here is the multicolored balloon garland. Just blow up some balloons and thread them together with needle and thread.
A Happy Birthday banner is essential! Found one in happy colors and a fun font.
And of course, Boy’s favorite was the CARS cake!
We had a laid-back party with cake, pizza and ice cream. He enjoyed running around with his friends and just being a happy, boisterous three-year old!
What cute ideas do you have for kids’ parties? Do you go all out or do you keep it simple?

I love these ideas. I have 3 sons and these decorations are better than what I have seen in the stores! The best part was the #3 for his age. Thank you for the tips!
