September 7, 2017 by Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy And Harried 4 Comments

What better way to enjoy the end of summer than with a surprise at-home family movie night? And for snacks, whip up this sweet & savory popcorn snack mix along with crackers and feta cheese dip to keep young and old alike happy!

MOVIE-NIGHT POPCORN & CRACKERS SNACK MIX - HAPPY&HARRIED

Boy started second grade last month. He is a confident, smart kid who loves school! But the start of the school year always leaves me scrambling for lunch and back to school snack ideas. The hardest part is when he comes back in the afternoon, still bustling with energy, and demands a quick snack. At those times, we need something super fast, easy to eat and delicious. So on most days, simple snacks like a bowl of popcorn, crackers and a fruit smoothie is what makes up his 4 o’clock snack.

Even though he likes school, kids being kids, he does look forward to Fridays. Friday nights are when we kick back and relax, catch a movie and say goodbye to bedtimes. And sometimes I like to surprise him by throwing a little movie-viewing party with our favorite snacks. We also have our next family movie already picked out – Captain Underpants:The First Epic Movie! Have you guys seen it already?

On my recent grocery run, I picked up a pack of our favorite Pop Secret popcorn and a variety pack of Lance crackers from Walmart. And it was there that I came to know that the Captain Underpants DVD is up for pre-order. If you have an elementary grade kid, especially a boy, chances are that you are familiar with George, Harold and their creation, Captain Underpants.

Boy loves slapstick comedy and the Captain Underpants books have held his fancy for a long time. Boy and his best buddy at school often talk about becoming an author and illustrator duo just like George and Harold in the comics. The Captain Underpants stories are full of outrageous humor and the movie is a great family movie night choice with A+ reviews. Did I say we were excited?!!

Now let’s talk movie night snacks. We love Pop Secret popcorn for their incredible butter flavor and admit it, popcorn simply screams FUN! We also love Lance crackers, which has amazingly been around for over 100 years! Crisp baked crackers sandwiched with real peanut butter or cheese, they are flavorful, wholesome, filling, and perfect to pack and go. Being a mom means always having an arsenal of fun, portable treats to tackle little hunger pangs before they turn everyone grumpy or hangry.

Do you need anything other than yummy snacks, a fluffy blanket and a funny movie for a great time?

Well maybe, we could dress up those snacks a bit, right? I love to lay out a bunch of toppings for our popcorn and then everyone can make their own popcorn snack mix.

Boy’s newest favorite thing is feta cheese, so I made a creamy dip for the crackers with feta and cream cheese. So good, I tell ‘ya!

And for the popcorn, you really do not need a recipe. Just dump the popped kernels into a bowl and add anything you fancy. Pretzels, marshmallows, candies, nuts, etc are great choices. I have a neat trick to make popcorn trail mix even fancier and more appealing to adults as well. I add some herbs and cinnamon sugar to hot popcorn and it gives this incredible flavor and aroma to your popcorn mix. I have found that rosemary, thyme or oregano work best. In a pinch, just add a small spoonful of Italian seasoning. So.many.possibilities.
