Ha! Just when the themes were getting sort of abstract, M throws a curve-ball! It’s back to the basics, by inspiring us to polish our ‘styling’ skills for this one. The challenge has that very word in it, lest we forget.
If the title didn’t clue you in already, this month’s challenge is ‘Living Room‘. The first (and probably the only) thing you would notice as you enter our living room are the toys, in all sizes, shapes and colors imaginable. I will serve you an extra cookie if you do not step on a miniature Lego block (ouch) or trip over a toy car, and actually make it to the couch in one piece!
So instead of a sweeping view of our living room, let’s concentrate on a small area, shall we? We do not own a stylish coffee table, as I really do not see the point in it. With a boy constantly bouncing around, the poor piece of furniture that acts as our coffee table is usually pushed to a corner. But I brought it back front and center for this post.
In a life where I do not have to worry about stuff being knocked over or toes getting stubbed, I may actually invest in a stylish coffee table with stylish (read expensive) accessories on it. Oh, but what a boring life that would be! Anyway, what I meant to say is that I tried styling our coffee table for this shoot. Phew, I can get chatty, can’t I?!!
Since it is gloriously warm nowadays (after an exceptionally harsh winter), I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some green things… er, plants. Glass jar terrariums are all the rage nowadays, so I decided to make a couple of them. It turned out rather cute, if I may say so myself. (Whether they will survive or not, now that’s a different question.) These terrariums are just what our living room needs – a unique, non-kid-related conversation piece.
A while ago, I gravitated a lot toward blues and greens. You can see that in the way I styled our bedroom for this shoot. Recently, I selected a set of new cushion covers in warm tones. So I’ve tried to reflect that in the styling too. I think it makes the greens really pop. What do you think?
Since this a photography challenge, here are a couple of cool shots and angles that I liked.
On a side note, I just love elephants and horses. They both are such majestic beasts. But elephant accessories are way cuter. Just look at this hand-carved beauty!
I cannot believe this is our penultimate challenge. Like everyone says at such a juncture, “Where does the time go?”!!
As always, let me know what you think. I love your feedback and insightful comments. Before you go, be sure to check out the other posts at these participating blogs.

I think this is your strongest photo shoot yet, Anjana! The lighting is handled really well and you’ve edited the accessories very nicely. My favorite image is the first one… I had mentioned on my challenge this month that I like things at right angles and I think that’s why this one was the most appealing to me. Haha. I, too, am loving the terrariums. I’ve been wanting to do those for a while with a few succulents I have around the house. Perhaps now is the time! ~M.

Wow, thanks so much, M!
I had some issues with light because of the glass jars. I tend to place things either straight or ‘properly angled’, if that makes sense… haha. I think I’ve mentioned that in some earlier challenge, the table setting one. My hubby actually said it looked too staged, I like to call it well-composed!
Thanks again, M! On another note, I miss your blog posts. I hope you continue them.

Aww thanks. I do intend to continue my blog and grow it even more, but I was struck with a bad illness at the new year that had me mostly bedridden for the next 3 months. It was a struggle to get the Challenge posts up. Needless to say, I couldn’t do any DIY projects, therefore I had nothing to post. Now that I have my energy back up, I hope to jam out a bunch of DIYs to share soon!
Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy & Harried says
Oh, sorry to hear that. I hope you are feeling better now and will soon be back in action!
Take care 🙂

Good job Anjana, I like that terrarium! Been wanting to buy one from the shop down the road but I think I’ll try my hand at making one after I read your DIY post 🙂
Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy & Harried says
Thank you, Dillon! Stay tuned for the DIY. Off to see your post now!!

I have to agree with Sreedevi, my favourite, too, would be the second shot. Love the kitschy feel about it! and oh… the strewn things never get over , it just gets replaced from toys to books to newspapers to CDs to other gadgets/media, to used plates/snack bowls etc etc the list is endless. Only way out is to train the hubby and the kids and then train some more!
Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy & Harried says
Thank you, Supriti! I know the chaos never ends… haha!!

Enjoyed reading your living room tale. I have gone through the same horror of treading on toys…luckily I lived through that and now it is electronic devices. I like the 2nd photo the most…elephants marching on a tray! I have a craze for giraffes…don’t tell any one!
Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy & Harried says
Thank you, Sreedevi! Kids, right?!!
Hmm… I love giraffes too. Haven’t come across lots of giraffe accessories though!
