Oh Christmas Tree! A Handmade Ornaments Christmas Tree

December 11, 2013 by Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy And Harried 23 Comments

I am so excited to be sharing our Christmas tree with you. Unlike other posts, this one seems more special, meaningful and somehow, intimate!

I am a hopeless romantic when it comes to Christmas trees. I adore them. I love watching the twinkling lights and shiny baubles. And I am fiercely proud of our tree.

As I’ve been telling you, this year I wanted a simpler tree with some handmade decorations. We decorated the tree (fake and pre-lit, you just cannot beat the convenience!) the weekend after Thanksgiving. But as always, I kept tweaking and updating it till I was satisfied the Mister told me to just let it be!

Then I had to take photos and that took forever. Anyway, it’s done at last and here is our cute little table-top tree.

Lovely Handmade Ornaments Christmas Tree

This little beauty is decked out mostly in white and silver ornaments along with handmade book page decorations.

Though mismatched, a few sentimental ornaments found their way on the tree too.

Wooden Nativity Bell Ornament

As a blogger, I think I broke some major design rules by including them in an otherwise white/silver tree, but I love seeing the wooden nativity ornament and Boy’s blue snowman on the tree all December long.

Boy's School Ornament

I waited a while before deciding on the topper. Nothing seemed quite right. Finally I settled on a simple oversize paper accordion/snowflake.

Here are a few details of the DIY decorations.

BOOK PAGE STAR GARLAND

Paper Star Garland

I used a cookie cutter to trace the star shape onto dictionary pages, cut them out and strung them on thick twine. You can glue them to the twine or even thin ribbon, but I found it was easier to reposition the stars if they were not glued down.

BOOK PAGE FLOWER ORNAMENTS

Here is a good tutorial for the flower.

Book Page Flower Ornament

At each flower’s center, I added little glittery stubs that I broke off from an old snowflake ornament.

BOOK PAGE ACCORDION ORNAMENTS

See how to make paper accordions here.

I stuck a glittery ornament at the center to add some sparkle.

BOOK PAGE LOOP ORNAMENTS

Go here for a proper tutorial.

Stick on paper circles at the center and add something sparkly.

DIY CLEAR ORNAMENT BALLS

Sometimes I feel like I live under a rock. How else can I explain my utter ignorance of clear ornament balls? The best invention ever for DIY-ers. I just discovered them and couldn’t wait to personalize them.

The options are endless, you can customize and decorate them to your heart’s content.

DIY Clear Ornament Balls

I filled them with glittery ribbon, strips of rolled paper and a strand of pearls. I left the last one empty and simply tied a ribbon on the hook. Simple and pretty.

Usually, I am at a loss over what to do about the foot of the tree. This time, there is a golden star and a small nativity scene at the foot of the tree.

Nativity Scene Below Christmas Tree

The nativity story almost always tears me up. So blessed!

Nativity Scene & Christmas Tree

I love the laid-back look of the tree this year.

Beautiful! I have made those origami flowers and used them as place holders. Guests then took them home as a memento 🙂

Thank you, Anjali. Imagination played a part for sure. But not much hard work 😉
I cut and folded the paper over a weekend movie. And decorating the tree was easier too. Much much less glittery and sparkly dust to clean up afterward.
Come on over. I would love to see Anvi’s reaction!
