Summer Milkshake Trio – Strawberry, Chocolate And Cashewnut Milkshakes

April 15, 2014 by Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy And Harried 41 Comments

Summer Milkshake Trio

Do you have a favorite milkshake flavor? Every time I have a milkshake, I feel that one is my favorite… till I try a different kind, that is!

Anyway, let me tell you a story. When I was in college, there were a couple of small eateries/bakeries near our campus. Any one who has stayed in hostels in India during their college days would understand the significance of this. We would be famished by the end of the day and the thought of dinner at the hostel was enough to drive our spirits down. So a daily trip to the bakery was inevitable. I am looking at you, Bu!

That is where I had my first Sharjah shake, a special milkshake available in bakeries throughout Kerala. This particular bakery was nothing but a collection of tables and chairs with a small counter-top serving as the kitchen/prep area. After all, all that was needed was a blender. For each order, the guy took a frozen packet of milk, banged on it with a large spoon a couple of times to break it up, and created different flavored milkshakes. Our favorite remained the simple Sharjah shake – made with milk, bananas and any kind of drinking chocolate.

I make milkshakes for Boy all the time. Sometimes, I feel it is the best after-school snack. It is cool, refreshing, nutritious and has fruit in it. (If you add ice cream to it, that’s when you pile up the sugar and calories. Let’s stay with just milk for now.) So, it was with surprise that I realized that I’ve never made my favorite shake for him. And we always have drinking chocolate powder at home in the form of Nesquik.

I was not so sure about the mister though. I knew he was not very much into Sharjah shakes. So I made a strawberry one. Both looked lovely. So I decided to make a third one, in a different color. Maybe something with nuts. You see, after Sharjah shake, my second favorite is an almond/badam milkshake. All I had on hand that day were cashew nuts, so a cashew nut milkshake it was!

Well, a milkshake is super easy. You really don’t need a recipe, do you? Blend milk (to make frozen milk, freeze milk in ice trays) and fruits or nuts, add sugar if needed, and you are done!

Milkshake Ingredients

When all three milkshakes were done, they looked so lovely in pink, white and chocolate – like a trio of Neapolitan shakes. Can you guess who had which one?

Summer Milkshakes - Strawberry, Cashew Nut And Chocolate

Here are the recipes. Feel free to improvise as per your taste.

STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE

How to:

  • Bend everything till smooth. Taste and add sugar or more milk, if needed.

CASHEW NUT & CARDAMOM MILKSHAKE

Yes, you read that right! Cashew nuts and cardamom come together in this lovely, creamy concoction.

Cashew Nuts

Cashew Nut Milkshake

By the way, did you notice my cute paper straws? I am in love… sigh!
