Pomegranate Mock Moscow Mule

December 28, 2016 by Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy And Harried 4 Comments

This festive Moscow mule inspired mocktail made with fresh pomegranate juice, limes, rosemary and bubbly ginger ale is the perfect way to ring in the New Year.

Pomegranate Mock Moscow Mule

I can’t believe we’re in the last week of the year. But now that we are actually here, this week is kinda dragging on. Get over with it already, will ya, 2016?

This year has been a mixed bag. We’ve had some ups and downs, but I’m thankful for everything that came our way.

Pomegranate Mock Moscow Mule

I don’t want to get all mushy on you, so I will get straight to the recipe. I assume you have heard of Moscow mules. At least you have the mugs, don’t you? I finally caved and got those adorable copper mugs. They are so shiny and coppery and cute! I drink plain water in them and it feels festive! To break them in, I made a quick mocktail inspired by the Moscow mule, a traditional vodka cocktail.

Pomegranate Mock Moscow Mule

This mocktail is made with fresh pomegranates, lime juice and bubbly ginger ale. This pomegranate mock mule is non-alcoholic and kid friendly, but you could replace part of the ginger ale with some vodka to make a real Moscow mule. Add a sprig of fresh rosemary and be sure to serve it over ice in those cheery copper mugs.

Pomegranate Mock Moscow Mule

This pomegranate Moscow mule is a great mocktail for day as well as night events. Make it for two or twenty. You can make the pomegranate juice ahead of time and assemble the drinks just when you need them. I am sure you could use store-bought pom juice, but I like the homemade kind better.

Pomegranate Mock Moscow Mule

I love how this delicious mocktail adds a spot of sunshine at this time of year. Not that we need any more of it down here in Texas. Can you believe it was 74 degrees on Christmas day?!!

Pomegranate Mock Moscow Mule

I have used ginger ale and not ginger beer in this recipe. But I’m sure you can use what you like. Experiment with the proportions and you’ll come up with the perfect potion!

Have a great New Year, folks. Find the recipe below.

Author: Anjana Devasahayam
Recipe type: Beverages
Cuisine: American
Serves: 2
You will need:
  • Pomegranate - 1
  • Limes - 2 small, juiced
  • Ginger ale - around 2 cups
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh rosemary - to garnish
How to:
  1. Cut and peel the pomegranate. Juice half of it and strain to remove seeds. Reserve the rest of the arils for garnish.
  2. Fill 2 Moscow mule mugs with ice.
  3. Divide pomegranate juice, lime juice and ginger ale in these two mugs. Garnish with rosemary and pomegranate arils.
  4. Serve immediately. The pomegranate juice can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
Notes:
1. Since the ginger ale is sweetened, this mocktail doesn't need any additional sweetener.
2. You can replace the ginger ale with part ginger beer and part vodka for a proper pomegranate Moscow mule.

I love pomegranates and i have so much fun picking out the arils! I usually end up making a mess but who cares! This mocktail is great for the new year since I am swearing off alcohol for the month. Thanks for sharing with Saucy Saturdays and have a happy new year!
