How To *Embellish A {Faux} Evergreen Christmas Wreath*

December 4, 2013 by Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy And Harried 7 Comments

Embellish A Faux Evergreen Christmas Wreath

For someone who crafts wreaths from book pages, crepe paper, twigs and what-not, my Christmas wreath used to be sad and boring. I take a faux evergreen wreath (boring, I know), add a big red bow and forget all about it till January.

Not this time.  I was determined to give the poor darling a much-needed makeover.

I briefly entertained the idea of spray painting it white, but honestly, all those little leaves scared me. I am not the one to devote an entire weekend to make a wreath.

Ten minutes are all this makeover takes, folks. Five, if you are not the type to be easily distracted like me! “Oh look, is that Fedex truck bringing me a package?” “I wonder where I left the scissors…again!!”

You will need:

  • Faux evergreen wreath (of course, duh!)
  • Flower or berry picks – 2-3
  • Faux flowers or Christmas ornament balls – 2-3 large ones
  • ‘Merry Christmas’ or some other wide ribbon (in burlap, preferably)
  • Scissors
  • Florist wire, twine, thread or hot glue (You basically need some sort of ornament and ribbon fixing-mechanism. Improvise with what you have on hand!)
  • Wreath hanger (duh, again!)

Embellishments for Faux Evergreen Wreath

You can see a lot of items in the above picture. I really wanted to use the J-O-Y letters, but I ended up using just the berry picks, flowers and a piece of the burlap ribbon.

Burlap Ribbon & Berries Pick

How to:

  • Lay the wreath on the floor or on a table and fluff well.
  • Stick the berry picks into the wreath at the south-east corner (yeah, I am particular like that). Fasten using florist wire or twine. The picks I used had long wires, so I just wound them around the wreath tightly.
  • Attach 2-3 flower heads or large ornament balls at the base of the picks. I actually used needle and thread to hold them in place. You will use a glue gun, if you are smart.

Faux Evergreen Wreath With Flowers

  • Attach a strip of ribbon at an angle opposite to the berries. Again, I used needle and thread. Just play around with the placement, asymmetry is in!

Fix Burlap Ribbon On Wreath

  • Fluff the wreath again and hang. Don’t forget the photo session after the makeover!

I also used a small length of twine to hang the wreath, because it was blocking the door peephole.

I love how it contrasts with the maroon door. A huge improvement from a simple red bow, don’t you think?

Slowly, but surely, Christmas is making an appearance at our place. How about you?

Yep, slowly but sure Christmas is blooming here, too 🙂 I like the makeover of your wreath. It would look great with ornaments hanging from the center, but I see why you had to skip that part 🙂
