Winter Spice Orange Tea

January 18, 2018 by Anjana @ At The Corner Of Happy And Harried 13 Comments

Cinnamon and cardamom infused tea is sweetened with freshly squeezed orange juice to make this delicious and soothing winter spice orange tea. It’s the perfect hot beverage to enjoy on winter days or cool summer nights.

WINTER SPICE ORANGE TEA - HAPPY&HARRIED

How has winter been treating you so far? It has been absolutely brutal here; by Texan standards, that is. I know I shouldn’t be complaining when most people up North are buried under snow, but you see, we aren’t used to it being so cold. And on top of that, there are the seasonal allergies…ughh.

WINTER SPICE ORANGE TEA - HAPPY&HARRIED

I like to load up on my vitamin C in the form of sweet winter oranges. Last week, I found these beautiful red cara cara navel oranges and I cannot stop snacking on them, literally. They’re just so good. And so pretty, no?

WINTER SPICE ORANGE TEA - HAPPY&HARRIED

I also made spiced tea sweetened with the oranges and it was so good… warm, soothing and very delicious.

WINTER SPICE ORANGE TEA - HAPPY&HARRIED

The recipe for this winter spiced tea is very simple and you can customize it to use your favorite spices. I brewed some teabags along with cinnamon and cardamom. I served the hot tea with a generous dose of freshly squeezed orange juice and it turned out simply delicious.

I didn’t add any sweetener in my orange tea, but you could add some if needed. A dash of honey would be lovely.

A cup of this spiced orange tea on a cold day is perfect to soothe any sniffles or a sore throat. The little kick of spice from the cinnamon, the floral notes of cardamom and the tangy-sweet orange juice makes it unbelievably good. And you can have as much of it as you like, especially if you don’t add additional sweetener.

Recipe type: Beverages
Cuisine: American
Serves: 2-3
You will need:
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Cinnamon - 1 stick
  • Cardamom - 4 pods, crushed
  • Black teabag - 1 (or use 2 tsp loose tea)
  • Orange juice - ½ cup, freshly squeezed
  • Honey - to sweeten, if needed
How to:
  1. Bring water to a boil along with cinnamon and cardamom in a saucepan. Add tea, cover and let steep for 4-5 minutes.
  2. Strain the tea. Fill tea mugs or glasses two-thirds with the hot tea and top with fresh orange juice. Taste and see if you need to sweeten with honey. Serve immediately.
Notes:
1. I like to brew a light tea to make hot orange tea.
2. You can store the orange tea int he fridge for a day and warm it up before serving.
3. Use your favorite spice while brewing the tea. You can use cloves, star anise, etc or herbs like fresh mint or rosemary too.

Hi – I still can’t get my wordpress back on my iPhone. Its locked on in blue “I think I forgot to send my first comment…” You obviously did not include this in the comments above. You said “thank you? Happy FF. I don’t quite understand what happened but maybe you could put my comment back and let me know and I will see if that corrects it. Thanks… Do you have a funny system for approving comments or ???

Never mind it has to be my phone. Something got crossed as I see those comments I mentioned above are about the cherrios post. So go ahead and get rid of these comments as I did select your tea for a feature (that is if Angie chooses it) Sorry for the confusion but frustrating not to be able to use my iPhone for WordPress 🙂
